His ability to tell stories using canvas along with his witty approach to drawing out the crudeness and beauty in the world was genius. This brother was able to take the world by storm with shear power. His ability to weave magic captivated many followers in different generations.

I am a big fan of pop and line art. Many of my older friends in NY who were around Jean and the likes of Keith Haring tell me many stories of these then young starving artIst and there rise to stardom. One of my friends is Jean’s long time friend and assistant Shangy. Shangy says that his brother JMB was a genius and people don’t the half of what was on Jean’s mind. If you study art then you can see the combination of street, pop, and surrealism all wrapped up in one in Jean’s canvas.

Nothing stopped Jean from being himself and representing his take on life. There is a lot to be said of of this man. He is personally one of my hero’s that I draw inspiration from. You can educate yourself with several forms of media that have been put out over the years including the two movies Basquiat a dramatization staring Jeffery Wright

and Downtown 81 featuring JMB himself in the flesh
gives you the vibes and energy of the old and vivd NYC!!!!
